West Yorkshire Track & Field League 2008
In the final West Yorkshire Track & Field league meeting,just 8 athletes turned out to support the club,but between them picked up 34 points.
In the junior rankings,Leila Yates picked up 2 points when she came 5th in the U11 Girls Long jump,with a jump of 3.11 metres,she also recorded 13.6 in the 75m.
In the U13 Boys,Joe Fort equalled his own 80m club record of 11.6,and recorded 4.59 in the shot putt.
In the U13 Girls catergory, Lucy-Jo Appleyard and Charlene Blackburn both finished just outside the points in the shot,Lucy-Jo throw 5.91 metres finishing 7th and Charlene produced a new personal best throw of 5.82 metres,nearly 50 centimetres further than her previous p.b.Lucy Jo also clocked 13.4 in the U13 girls 80m.
Charlotte Holdsworth produced some good performances,competiting in her favoured event the 800m,she recorded 3 minutes exactly,just afew seconds down on her best time,how ever she had already competed in the 100m sprint recording 15.8.She also recorded 4.37 in the shot.
Potential medal winner Liam Holdsworth just missed out on a medal,he finished 4th in the overall standings for U17 Men,just 2 points of bronze.In the 2008 season Liam scored 31 points.He produced his best 800m race of the season when he came from 5th place,20m or so of the lead group to storm home to 3rd place in 2 minutes 22.1 seconds,just 2 seconds of his personal best,picking up 4 points.In the 1500m Liam ran well but finished just outside the points in the wet and windy conditions,in 5 minutes exact.He then picked up 2 points for his jump of 4.81 metres in the long jump.
In the senior rankings last years medal winners Ross Blackburn & Yvette Clift also missed out on medal,both finishing 5th in there age catergories.Ross was are highest point scorer at the meeting picking up 14 points and for the season scoring 39 points.In his 1st event,the 1500m in the wet and windy conditions,he managed to pick up 4 points for 3rd place,recording 4 minutes 31 seconds,slightly down on his p.b with he set last year.He then competed in the discus recording 17.02 metres,but sadly no points.In the long jump,he produced a jump of 5.22 metres picking up 2 points for 5th place.5 minutes later in the 100m he produced a new personal best of 12.7 but finished just outside the points.Back to his more favoured evnt,the 800m,he stormed home to take victory and 7 points in a time of 2 minutes 14 seconds,7 seconds down on his personal best but 7 points nonetheless.In his final event,running on very tired legs,the 400m,he picked up 1 point for 6th place with a time of 58.9.
Yvette finished the season in style picking up 12 points at this meeting,she picked up 4 points for he 4.09 metre jump in the long jump.3 points in both the 800m & 400m,recording 3 minutes 8.8 in the 800m,and 69.9 seconds in the 400m.In her 100m sprint which she has been improving at all year,she picked up 2 points for 5th place with a time of 14.3 seconds,running on tired legs.The mens team overall scored 80 points for the season,finishing 12th out of 16 teams.The U17 Mens team scored 40 points overall,finishing 4th out of 14 teams,the Senior Mens team scored 39 points finishing 6th out of 13 teams.The woens team overall scored 44 points,9th place out of 15 teams.The Senior womens team finished 5th place with 33 points out of 11 teams.These team results show that if afew more athletes in each age catergory could help the club score more points next season.See You all the West Yorkshire Championships.
