Young Athletes League

High Jumpers from the Ackworth Road Runners & Athletics Club were in brilliant form in last Sunday’s National Young Athletes League fixture in the Northern Division 2 East Central at Thornes Park Stadium, Wakefield. The Ackworth club provided 5 out of the 6 age group winners in the High Jump events.

Yorkshire champion, Rita Yates, led the way with an impressive victory in the Under 15 Girls High Jump. Rita cleared 1.45 Metres, just 5 centimetres down on her winning jump at Don Valley the previous week.

Kelsey Mansell won the Under 13 Girls High Jump with a clearance of 1.16 Metres.

Daniel Holland, in his first competition for the Ackworth club, was the winner of the Under 13 Boys event with 1.24 Metres and Bradley Wilson won the Under 15 Boys age group with 1.45 Metres.

Liam Holdsworth equalled his personal best to secure victory in the Under 17 Men’s High Jump with 1.65 Metres.

Bradley Wilson also won the Under 15 Boys Long Jump with a leap of 4.66 Metres.

3 club records were set at the meeting. Joel Dibb continued his excellent start to the season by finishing 2nd in the Under 17 Men’s Triple Jump with a club record of 11.66 Metres.

Danielle Wilson improved her own club record in the Under 13 Girls 1200 Metres, finishing 3rd in 4 minutes 35.7 seconds.

In the Under 13 Girls Long Jump, Alix Edwards, making her debut in an Ackworth vest, finished 3rd in a club record of 3.81 Metres.

With 21 athletes competing for them, Ackworth had their best turn out so far in a Track and Field competition, but in a very competitive fixture, despite the High Jumping successes, they could still only manage to finish 5th out of the 6 teams, who competed. The final results were:- 1st Pudsey & Bramley – 714 points, 2nd Holmfirth – 530 points, 3rd Pendle – 404 points, 4th Skyrac – 367 points, 5th Ackworth – 341 points, 6th Ilkley – 323 points.
